Games for couples

Two-player games for a date, a sofa or a long journey. All 16 are free, play on a single phone that gets passed around, and need no download or account.

Two people and one phone is the most common version of "we should play something" and the worst served. Everything with a box needs four players. Everything online needs two accounts. What actually works is a short list of games that are either a good conversation with prompts, or a contest with a clear winner.

These 16 cover both. Would You Rather, This or That, Truth or Dare and Hot Seat are the talking ones — you will disagree about something small and it will be funnier than it should be. Riddle Rush, Crack the Code, 20 Questions and Guesstimate are the thinking ones, where one of you knows and the other has to work it out. Higher or Lower, Quick Maths, Word Scramble, Hangman and Trivia Royale keep score, which is how a ten-minute game becomes a forty-minute one.

All of it runs on one phone with no accounts and no connection needed after the first load, so it works on a flight, in a car, or at a restaurant while you wait. Set the content level to After Dark and the prompts get bolder; leave it on Family and the same games are safe to play in front of anyone.

Frequently asked questions

Which game is best for a date night?

Would You Rather. It is the fastest way into a real conversation from a standing start, the dilemmas are written to be genuinely hard to answer, and you can play it for five minutes or an hour. Hot Seat is the one to follow it with once you are warmed up.

Are there spicier options?

The content level controls it. After Dark makes the prompts in Would You Rather, Never Have I Ever, Truth or Dare and This or That considerably bolder, though nothing in the library is explicit. It is one setting and it applies to every game at once.

What can we play on a long car or plane journey?

20 Questions, Riddle Rush, Guesstimate, Higher or Lower and Would You Rather all need nothing but talking, and everything works with the connection off once the site has loaded. Add it to your home screen before you leave and it opens like an app.

Are any of these competitive?

Several. Quick Maths, Word Scramble, Higher or Lower, Hangman, Crack the Code and Trivia Royale all keep a running score across rounds, so you can play a proper best-of.

Is it free?

Entirely. There is no paid tier, no locked content, no ads and no account. Every game and every prompt is available the moment the page loads.
