Truth or Dare has one structural flaw that everyone has experienced: whoever is holding the bottle decides who suffers, and the same two people end up doing everything. The spinner here is weighted to fix exactly that — nobody gets skipped for long and nobody goes twice in a row.

The second flaw is that the dares are always either boring or impossible. All 1,500+ dares in this deck are deliberately living-room-doable — nothing that requires leaving the building, nothing that requires props, nothing that ends a friendship. There are 1,500+ truths alongside them, and everything is tagged by spice level.

The scoring is what stops it drifting. Deliver your truth or dare and you take +2. Bail and you are the Chicken for −1, and the app remembers, and there is an award for it at the end.

What you need

  • One phone in the middle of the circle
  • 2 to 20 players
  • Room to actually perform a dare
  • About 20 minutes, or all night

How to play Truth or Dare

  1. The spinner picks a victim. Fate is weighted — nobody gets skipped for long, and nobody goes twice in a row.

  2. The victim chooses Truth 🫣, Dare 🔥, or hands their destiny to Random 🎲.

  3. Read the card OUT LOUD, then deliver. Card doesn’t land? Deal another — it costs nothing.

  4. Nailed it? Done = +2 points. Bailed? Chicken 🐔 = −1 point, and the shame is permanent.

  5. Room disagrees with the call? Flip delivered ↔ chickened on the spot, or in the end-of-game log. Scores follow.

  6. Cards match your global spice level (🟢🟡🔴) — change it anytime in Settings.

  7. Play forever, or hit Finish for the podium… and the Biggest Chicken award. 🐔👑

Scoring and winning

  • Deliver your truth or dare and score +2.
  • Chicken out and take −1, permanently recorded.
  • Choosing Random — letting the app decide between truth and dare — scores the same as choosing deliberately.
  • Play as long as you like, then hit Finish for the podium and the Biggest Chicken award.

Truth or Dare strategy and tips

  • Read the card out loud before you decide whether you can do it. Reading silently and then bailing is the least entertaining possible outcome.
  • Pick Dare early in the night while everyone is still self-conscious. Dares warm a room up far faster than truths.
  • The group is the judge. A half-answered truth or a mimed dare does not count, and letting it count once means it counts for the rest of the game.
  • Random is worth choosing more often than people do. Not knowing which you are getting is most of the tension.
  • Set the spice level to match the least comfortable person in the room, not the most. You can always move it up.
  • The Chicken penalty is the whole engine. Do not house-rule it away — it is what makes a −1 feel worse than a bad dare.

Variants and house rules

Random

Instead of choosing, hand your fate to the app. It picks truth or dare for you, and it scores identically.

Double or nothing

House rule: a player who chickens out may draw one more card instead. Complete it for +2, or fail it for −3.

Group dare

Any dare can be converted into a group dare that everyone must do. Nobody scores, but nobody escapes either.

Truth only

Skip dares entirely and play with the 1,500+ truths as a conversation game. Works well with a seated group or a smaller space.

Spice levels

Family is safe for a ten-year-old. Party is cheeky and adult-adjacent. After Dark is bold, and still never explicit.

Truth or Dare FAQ

How do you play Truth or Dare?

The spinner picks a player. That player chooses Truth, Dare, or Random, reads the card out loud, and delivers. The group judges whether they followed through — +2 if they did, −1 if they chickened out.

How many truths and dares are there?

3,000+ cards in total: 1,500+ truths and 1,500+ dares, all tagged by spice level so the deck matches your group.

Are the dares safe?

Yes. Every dare is written to be doable in a living room with no props, nothing dangerous, nothing that requires leaving the room, and nothing designed to humiliate.

Can you play Truth or Dare with kids?

Set the global spice level to Family and the whole deck is age-appropriate. Both the truths and the dares change with the setting.

How does the spinner choose?

It is weighted rather than purely random. Nobody goes twice in a row, and players who have not had a turn recently become more likely to be picked.

Can you play with just two people?

Yes, though it works better from four. With two players the spinner simply alternates, so it becomes a straight back-and-forth.
